I am a physician, and have been taking this prenatal vitamin for both pregnancies after a slightly obsessive-compulsive search of all the vitamins available on Amazon and Google.Considerations for me:1. Vitamin A: should be in the form of beta carotene and not retinol or palmitate. Too much preformed Vitamin A in pregnancy can cause birth defects, and you never know exactly how much you're already getting from other sources. Beta carotene is not known to cause birth defects.2. Folate is preferred to folic acid.3. No massive oversupply of various vitamins. Why would we need 1000% of the recommended daily value of something?4. No herbal supplements in my prenatal vitamin, please. Very little research has been done on the safety and long-term effects of herbal supplements in pregnancy (I know this because I did a literature review).5. Calcium: current data shows that calcium is best consumed in food and not as part of a vitamin. So less is better, because calcium is one of the things you can get too much of. Vitamin D is another one that you don't want to go overboard on.6. As few doses a day as possible. I would have preferred once a day, but will settle for two. Three is too many in my opinion.Still have to supplement if you take this vitamin:1. Calcium, in your diet2. Choline, if you like what current research is showing about choline in pregnancy, especially if your diet is low in choline.3. DHA/omega 3, if you wantAll vitamins can cause nausea in pregnancy (a lot worse my first pregnancy, but I was more nauseated in general then), and this contains iron and may worsen constipation (which pregnancy causes anyway). I try to stay hydrated and take fiber gummies to help with that.I spent probably 12 or so hours in total researching the literature, reading countless prenatal vitamin ingredient labels, and creating a ridiculously long list of rejects before choosing this vitamin. It's not perfect, but it's the closest one I found! So now you can take advantage of my 8 years of medical education, without the student loans...you're welcome!
